IMPORTANT FCC INFORMATION
This month I want to highlight the importance of the FCC Narrowbanding plan that will affect over 61,000 UHF and VHF FCC licenses in Los Angeles County alone. In total I estimate that there are over 85,000 licensed FCC channels in the greater Los Angeles area that will be required to move from 25 KHz. to 12.5 KHz.
Advanced Electronics, Inc. is prepared to assist any one who has questions about the FCC Narrowbanding rulings:
- How do I modify my FCC license to operate at 12.5 KHz.?
- How can I add data to my FCC license?
- Can my two-way handheld and mobile radios be re-programmed to operate at 12.5 KHz.?
- Can my repeaters, base stations and control stations operate at 12.5 KHz.?
- If I need to replace radios, what is a good budgetary number for me to plan for?
- When will I need to make a decision and take action?
Please call us at 310-725-0410 or talk with your Advanced Electronics, Inc. account representative to get answers to these questions and more.
We are here to serve each of you! |

We appreciate and value your business.

In December 2004, the Federal Communications Commission mandated that all private LMR users operating below 512 MHz move to 12.5 kHz narrowband voice channels and highly efficient data channel operations by January 1, 2013. Using narrowband channels will ensure that organizations take advantage of more efficient technology and, by reducing channel width, will allow additional channels to exist within the same spectrum space.
Following is a list of Motorola radios that you may still have in service and are NOT narrowband capable:

To phase in the migration deadline of January 1, 2013, the FCC has established interim deadlines. The first important deadline is January 1, 2011, after which:
- The FCC will not grant applications for new voice operations or applications to expand the authorized contour of existing stations that use 25 kHz channels. Only narrowband authorizations will be granted.
- The FCC will prohibit manufacture or importation of new equipment that operates on 25 kHz channels. This will reduce the availability of new equipment for legacy radio systems and will affect how agencies maintain and upgrade older systems

Take Advantage of Digital
Digital two-way radios offer several advantages over analog solutions, to name a few:
- Clearer audio to help assure messages are understood without background noise and static
- Integrated data applications such as text messaging, GPS-based location tracking, work order ticket management and much more
